A foreign fishing vessel trespassing on Maldivian waters has been detained by authorities.
The fishing boat was reported to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF)'s Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre at 3:21 pm on May 19. The boat was sighted 45 miles off L. atoll by a local fishing vessel.
In an operation carried out to locate the boat, MNDF found the vessel around 139 nautical miles off L. atoll. The boat is now being brought to L. atoll under MNDF supervision.
Five crewmen were aboard the vessel when MNDF detained the boat. Neither their nationality nor the flag of the vessel has been disclosed by MNDF.
