Transport Minister Aishath Nahula has been fined for breaking quarantine rules.
A senior official from Transport Ministry who does not wish to be named said Minister Nahula visited Dubai last weekend and did not observe the mandatory 14-day quarantine upon her return to the Maldives. She was fined on Tuesday night while she was dining in a restaurant in capital Male'. The official said the minister has also attended office during the period she was supposed to be in quarantine.
While Minister Nahula has been fined for violating quarantine rules, the amount she was fined with is unknown. The fine for violating quarantine rules is MVR 1,000. However, when Nahula was fined, she was also at a restaurant at a time when the Health Protection Agency (HPA ) has banned dining-in services for cafes and restaurants.
The police said the authority does not publicize the information on those fined for HPA guideline violations. The minister could not be reached for comments regarding the incident.
