COVID-19: Only one patient in critical condition

The Health Emergency Operation Centre (HEOC) has stated that only one COVID-19 patient is currently in critical condition.

4,067 COVID-19 cases are active at this time, out of which 30 are admitted at medical facilities. According to HEOC, 15 patients are admitted in the Greater Male' Region while the remaining 15 patients are admitted at medical facilities in the atolls. Only one patient is in critical condition at this time. The patient is admitted in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and is on ventilator support.

The COVID-19 situation in the Maldives worsened last month to the point that health care facilities were overwhelmed. Hulhumale Hospital was therefore changed to a COVID-19 facility in order to increase capacity. Part of state-run IGMH's Hiyala Wing was also designated for COVID-19 patients.

The COVID-19 numbers have improved significantly over the past few weeks, compared to alarming figures during the recent virus surge. While the daily number of cases was above 1,000 last month, only 150 cases recorded over the past 24 hours.
