Restaurant Association to stage protect over COVID-19 restrictions

The Restaurant Association is organizing a demonstration to protest against the restrictions imposed on cafes and restaurants due to COVID-19.

President of the Restaurant Association, Hamid Afeef told AVAS that the government has not been giving adequate support to the industry despite the deep losses faced by the businesses due to the COVID-19 restrictions, and the many requests for assistance. Therefore, a demonstration will be held on Monday afternoon at 4:00 pm near the Carnival area in Male' City to express their concern on the matter, said Hamid.

Currently, restaurants and cafes are prohibited from offering dine-in services and may only provide takeaway and delivery services. This has led to the businesses suffering huge losses due to the decline in revenue. A motion was previously submitted at the parliament to provide compensation for restaurants and cafes. HOwever, the parliament decided against providing compensation.
