The Maldives will resume issuing tourist visas for those traveling from South Asian countries from July 15 onward.
The Maldives suspended issuing tourist visas to South Asian travelers on May 13 after the COVID-19 situation in India worsened significantly.
During a press conference held at the President's Office on Tuesday, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih announced that the government has made the decision to resume issuing visas to South Asian travelers from July 15. Work permits will also be issued to migrant workers from South Asia, but such persons will need to complete a quarantine period upon their arrival in the Maldives, said the president.
The number of tourists visiting the Maldives is expected to increase significantly when the government resumes issuing tourists visas. The state revenue is also expected to increase when the tourism industry flourishes.
