A contract has been signed between Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to implement a coastal protection project in Ha. Hoarafushi.
The project was contracted to MTCC on June 30. The agreement was signed by MTCC's CEO, Adam Azim on behalf of the company, and by Planning Ministry's Director General Fathmath Shana Farooq on behalf of the government. Hoarafushi MP Ahmed Saleem was also in attendance at the ceremony.
The scope of the project includes the construction of a 2,861m quay wall on both sides of Harafushi Airport's runway, and the construction of a concrete culvert on the causeway. The value of the project is MVR 90.5 million. The project must be completed within 360 days.
Heavy torrential rain during May this year caused large damage to Hoarafushi Airport. The damages were fixed by MTCC, and cost MVR 300,000. According to MTCC, the renovation cost was not as high as expected. The airport was brought to operational condition on June 25 after completing renovation works.
