Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has extended the time period given to provide Hoarafushi Airport with the required equipment for its development. The duration granted for the provision has been extended till October 27, 2020.
Equipment required include a mini pickup, some items needed for the airport, tractor, rotaslasher, fire equipment, foam suppliers, fire pump, walk-through metal detector and a screening machine.
The development of Hoarafushi Airport is carried out by MTCC. The company expects the project to reach completion by November 11. Upon completion, the airport will have a 1.2-kilometere-long runway, an 8,635 square meter apron as well as a taxi way, service roads, parking area and a fire access road. A fence of 720 meters will separate the airport from the rest of the island.
Initiated by the former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom, an area of 16-hectare was dredged for the development of Hoarafushi Airport. The development of the airport is being carried out by MTCC for MVR 64 million.
