Over 35,000 tourist arrivals via charter flights

Over 35,000 tourists arrived in the Maldives via charter flights thus far this year.

Statistics released by the Tourism Ministry show 9 charter flights have been operating to the Maldives. 380 flight movements have been recorded via these operations, transporting 35,285 tourists by June 30, 2020.

Most charter flight movements were recorded from Air Astana, the flag carrier of Kazakhstan, which carries tourists from the Russian region. While 148 flight movements have been recorded by the airline, it has carried 12,032 tourists thus far this year. Azur Air, a charter airline in Russia, carried the second-most number of tourists over 46 flight movements.

According to statistics, the most number of flight movements were recorded via Emirates Airlines, with 1,260 movements this year. 104,612 tourists arrived in the Maldives via the airline. The second-most number of flight movements were recorded from Qatar Airways, which carried 80,250 tourists over 974 movements. Russia's flag carrier, Aeroflot comes third with 450 flight movements and 75,080 tourists.

While 18 airlines currently operate to the Maldives, 7.802 flight movements have been recorded to date.
