Resort workers who have completed both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine can travel back to their islands without having to quarantine, the government has decided.
In a tweet posted on Wednesday, Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom said resort workers can travel to their home islands without quarantining if 14 days have passed since they received the final dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. However, they will still need to undergo a PCR test to confirm they are not infected with COVID-19. The leniency does not apply to resort workers in resorts under monitoring and those traveling to islands under monitoring. The minister said the Tourism Ministry will share further information regarding the change once details are received from the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
Resort workers have been unable to travel to their home islands since the Maldives reopened its borders to tourists during July last year. While citizens who complete the two doses of the vaccine were allowed to travel in the past, no such eases were granted to resort workers, which led to several complaints from industry workers.
