MP Jeehan elected to IPU's Democracy and Human Rights Committee

Hinnavaru MP and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights and Gender, Jeehan Mahmood has been elected to the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)'s Democracy and Human Rights Committee.

Jeehan was elected to the committee from the Asia Pacific Group. Her name was nominated for the committee by the Maldives Parliament. This is the first time a parliamentarian from the Maldives has been elected to the IPU's Human Rights Committee.

The IPU is an international organization of national parliaments. Its primary purpose is to promote democratic governance, accountability, and cooperation among its members. As of 2020, the national parliaments of 179 countries are members of the IPU, while 13 regional parliamentary assemblies are associate members.
