Hinnavaru MP Jeehan Mahmood has been elected as the Chair of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Human Rights and Democracy Committee.
The main purpose of this committee is to promote democratic principles and protect human rights. Jeehan will hold the post until March 2025.
Jeehan is also the Chairman of the Human Rights and Gender Committee in the Parliament. She has previously served as a member of the Maldives Human Rights Commission (HRCM).
