Ex-MP Muhanmaa rejoins PPM

Former Ihavandhoo MP and movie star Mohamed 'Muhanmaa' Abdulla has rejoined the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

Muhanmaa rejoined the party at a ceremony held at PPM's Office on Wednesday. During the 18th Parliament, between 2014 and 2019, Muhanmaa first represented PPM although he later worked against PPM's leader and then president of the Maldives, Yameen Abdul Gayyoom near the end of the term. He was among the 12 members who defected from PPM. Muhanmaa later contested for a parliament seat for the 19th Parliament but failed to secure a seat.

Speaking at Wednesday's ceremony, Muhanmaa said he deeply regrets working against President Yameen, and apologized for his actions. He said the work he does for the party from this point forth will ensure that President Yameen is re-elected.

'I still regret the mistakes I made. I am deeply saddened that I went against President Yameen. I admit I made a huge mistake,' Muhanmaa said.
