Himandhoo placed under HPA monitoring

Aa. Himandhoo has been placed under the Health Protection Agency (HPA)'s monitoring status after COVID-19 cases were identified on the island.

According to HPA, monitoring mechanisms were activated on the island after an individual who traveled to the island from Male' City tested positive for the virus. A direct contact of the individual has also tested positive.

The island tourism industry is currently flourishing in Himandhoo. While 60 percent of Himandhoo's population has completed COVID-19 vaccination, all above the age of 65 years have also received the vaccine. This includes the island among the nine islands to which tourists can travel without being required to complete a quarantine. However, entry and exit from the island will remain suspended until the monitoring status is lifted.

16 other islands are currently under HPA monitoring in addition to Himandhoo.
