Development projects to pick up pace over the next two years

Planning Minister Mohamed Aslam has stated that the government projects will pick up pace over the course of the remainder of the presidential term. The minister made the statement while speaking at a ceremony held in Th. Omadhoo on Wednesday to inaugurate the island's harbour.

Minister Aslam said infrastructural projects will increase as the government's revenue increases. The government will not differentiate between atolls and islands in carrying out such projects, said the minister.

The minister noted that although the country faced several challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government successfully constructed harbors in 22 islands over the past two years. He further noted that the construction of 39 harbors is currently ongoing, and the construction of 17 harbors is in the tender process.

'Hopefully, over the remaining two years of the current presidential term, infrastructural projects and other development projects will be carried out at a fast pace,' said the minister.

In implementing projects, the government sometimes has reluctance to carry out some aspects of the project due to technical issues that arise during the process, said Aslam. However, the government always attempts to find a way around the issues to achieve what is required, assured the minister.
