Phase I of Fonadhoo Road Development to reach completion in October

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has said the first phase of L. Fonadhoo Road Development Project will reach completion in October.

Providing updates after inspecting the progress of the project, CEO of MTCC Adam Azim said only a few works remain incomplete under the first phase of the project. This includes the completion of the pavement and establishing a stormwater management system, said Azim. The work is expected to reach completion by October, he added.

The construction and development of roads in L. Fonadhoo was first contracted in 2017. However, the project was later contracted to MTCC after it failed to move forward. MTCC took over the project in May 2019 for MVR 25.6 million. Under this project, 27,848 sqm area of asphalt is being laid along 12 roads which have a total length of 3.5 km. The project also includes the development of a stormwater management system to minimize flood damage along with the construction of speed breakers and road markings.

MTCC is now gearing up to commence the second phase of the project. The second phase of the project was contracted to MTCC last January. Azim said the second phase will commence as soon as the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) of the project is completed. Phase Two is expected to commence in October, said Azim.
