Villa Air hopes to commence intl. flights end of September

Villa Air has said it hopes to commence international flights from Maamigili Airport on September 26.

Villa Air made the statement in response to a question asked by AVAS regarding the group's request to upgrade Maamigili Airport to an international airport.

Managing Director of Villa Air, Abdulla Nashid said the airport is yet to receive its international license, despite efforts to obtain the license since May last year. However, the necessary inspections required for the issuance of the license was completed on Thursday, he added.

Nashid said Villa Air hopes to commence international flights from Maamigili Airport on September 26, and that necessary preparations are underway. The first international flight will be between Maamigili Airport and Bangalore, India, said Nashid.

Although Maamigili Airport is yet to receive the international license, private international jets already land at the airport.
