The man arrested for attacking a staffer at MDP Secretariat has been remanded in custody for 15 days.
Mariyam 'Mandhy' Zubair, also the mother of Galolhu South MP Mikaeel Naseem, was attacked at the MDP Secretatriat on Thursday afternoon by fellow staffer, Mohamed Jazeel. The police arrested Jazeel under a court warrant on Friday. The police said he was summoned to court to decide on his remand on Saturday, and that the court set his remand for 15 days.
Mandhy suffered injuries to her head during the attack, and received treatment at the hospital. MP Mikaeel said Mandhy was attacked by an individual who was under the influence. In a series of tweets posted following the incident, Mandhy said she did not wish for Jazeel to be prosecuted, and that he was in need of treatment.
Jazeel has also spoken to the media regarding the incident. Jazeel said he was not intoxicated at the time of the incident and that he resorted to attacking Mandhy as he could no longer tolerate the abuse he faced at the MDP Secretariat.
