Fuwad Thawfeek has been elected as the President of the Elections Commission (EC).
EC's Secretary General, Hassan Zakariyya said a vote was taken at 5 pm Wednesday. Fuwad ran uncontested, and secured his seat with the consensus of commission members. Member Ismail Habeeb was elected as the Vice President of the Commission.
Fuwad has previously served at the commission's president. Fuwad is well-liked by majority of politicians, who believe he is qualified for the post.
EC President's seat became vacant when former President of the commission, Ahmed Shareef Adam resigned from the commission.
