MNDF officer dies while undergoing training exercise in India

A Maldives National Defence Force officer passed away in Pune, India while undergoing a military training exercise.

MNDF said Lance Corporal Mohamed Sultan, 22, passed away on Saturday while completing an endurance run at Pune National Defense Academy's Camp Green Horn. He was taken to the hospital at 1:58 pm after he collapsed during the exercise. He had already passed away when he was bought to the hospital.

Lance Corporal Sultan joined military service on April 8, 2018. He was taking part in the 145th Officer Cadet Training Court at Pune National Defense Academy. The course, which began on March 1 this year, is scheduled to end on March 15, 2024. Prior to joining the training exercise, Sultan served at Integrated Headquarters (J-1), MNDF said. He was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal while undergoing training in India.  

MNDF said arrangements are being made to transport the officer's body to the Maldives.
