Nasheed to return to Maldives today

Former President of the Maldives and Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed will be returning to the Maldives this afternoon.

A member of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) who wished to remain anonymous said Nasheed was due to arrive on the Maldives on Monday. However, the date was later changed to Tuesday although the reason for the change is unknown, he said.

AVAS reached out to Nasheed's family for information on Nasheed's arrival. However, they did not comment on the matter, and asked to contact Nasheed's personal secretary for more information.

Nasheed left to Germany for medical treatment after a terror attack critically injured him last May. After spending several weeks in Germany, he flew to the United Kingdom for further treatment, and has not returned to the Maldives. He recently traveled to UAE to take part in the World Expo, and will be flying to the Maldives from UAE.

Nasheed has said he is living abroad for the time being as he is still afraid for his life. Upon his return, Nasheed will be residing at his family home, G. Kenereege. Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has said they face challenges in providing security to Nasheed at the location.
