Speaker of the Parliament and former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed has returned to the Maldives after five months.
Nasheed traveled abroad seeking medical treatment after a terror attack targeted him last May, during which he received numerous critical injuries. He first traveled to Germany, and later traveled to the United Kingdom for further treatment.
Upon Nasheed's long awaited return to the Maldives, he was greeted at Velana Intrnational airport by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. Despite recent political differences between the two, the pair appeared to have a close relationship during the reunion.
Nasheed's visit to the Maldives is a detour after visiting the World Expo in Dubai. Although Nasheed has returned to the Maldives, his stay in the island nation will be short, lasting only three days. Nasheed has said he does not feel safe returning to the Maldives while those behind his attack still remain free.
