Nasheed encourages avoiding taunting of MDP members amid defeat

Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed has requested civility and respect towards the members and supporters of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) following their defeat in the Maldives' presidential election.

After the victory of PPM-PNC candidate Dr. Mohamed Muizzu was confirmed, Nasheed took to Twitter to urge citizens not to taunt or insult MDP members and supporters. He emphasized that it is unwise to prioritize hatred and animosity in the wake of the election results.

In his tweet, Nasheed also congratulated President-Elect Dr. Muizzu.

Nasheed, a prominent leader of the MDP for many years, recently resigned from the party and joined The Democrats. This newly formed political party split from the MDP due to differences of opinion within the party.
