Vice President Faisal Naseem on Sunday inaugurated Mohamed Gasim Preschool in Hulhumalé City. The development of the school was funded by a private citizen.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony held at the school, Vice President Faisal Naseem said that the school was opened at a very opportune moment for Hulhumalé residents. Emphasising the blessings of supporting the society, the Vice President encouraged those fortunate amongst us to give back to the community.
Speaking further, the Vice President stressed that while people have already started moving into the social housing flats at the second phase of Hulhumalé City, there are not enough schools to accommodate them at the vicinity. Highlighting that the government attaches high priority to the development of the education sector and that the sector is allotted the most government funds, he said that currently the government is working on building two schools in Hulhumalé City.
The Vice President also thanked Ali Firag’s family for donating the school to the government. The school comprises of 10 classrooms, a hall and additional rooms for administrative purposes. The school was built by Ali Firag and his family, in remembrance of his late father, Mohamed Gasim.
With the application of the Education Act (24/2020) on August 10, 2021, the government is obligated to provide free universal preschool education.
