MNP officially registered as a political party

Maldives National Party (MNP) has been officially registered as a political party.

A tweet posted by MNP on Monday said the party was officially registered as a political party and added to the registry of political parties under the Political Party Act.

The Elections Commission gave permission to form MNP as a political party in July this year. MNP submitted over 5,000 membership registration forms and requested to register the party on September 15, and held its inaugural congress on October 8, during which one of the party's founders and former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim was elected as the party's President. Hussain Ismail, MP Ahmed Usham, MP Abdulla Riyaz, Ahmed Shareef, former Gender Minister Shidhatha Shareef and Mirfath Ismail Shafeeq were elected as the party's six Vice Presidents.
