EC grants permission to hold MNP's Inaugural Congress

The Elections Commission (EC) has granted permission for new political party, Maldives National Party (MNP) to hold their inaugural congress.

Speaking to AVAS, Vice President of EC, Ismail Habeeb said majority of the membership registration forms submitted by MNP are valid. Therefore, the party has been given permission to proceed with their inaugural congress, Habeeb said.

The Elections Commission gave permission to form MNP as a political party in July this year. MNP submitted over 5,000 membership registration forms and requested to register the party on September 15. If the inaugural congress is carried out according to the regulations, the party will be formally registered as a political party.

MNP is headed by Dhangethi MP and former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim, Thimarafushi MP Abdulla Riyaz and Villimale' MP Ahmed Usham.
