Speaker of the Parliament and former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed has met with Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives, Wang Lixin. The meeting took place at the Parliament Office on Tuesday.
Ambassador Lixin handed over her credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and officially took on her role as ambassador on September 1. She met Nasheed in a virtual meeting on September 21. While two meetings have taken place between the Speaker and the ambassador since she assumed office, the Parliament Secretariat has not disclosed any information regarding either meeting.
Ambassador Lixin also met with Deputy Speaker, Eva Abdulla on Wednesday.
Nasheed has always been a vocal critic of China and has rebuked China on multiple occasions claiming that the country does not give concessions on the loans issued to the Maldives. Lixin's predecessor, Zhang Lizhong frequently used to refute Nasheed's allegations.
