The Criminal Court has ordered for the husband of Mary Grace to be remanded in custody for 15 days.
The police began investigating the death of Filipino nurse, Mary Grace, on October 19 after receiving reports that a woman committed suicide. While the police flagged suspicions related to her death, the aspects are being investigated further. Her husband, a 29-year-old Filipino was arrested on Wednesday. The police confirmed that the court remanded him for 15 days at the remand hearing held Thursday.
The police had earlier said arrangements were being made to transfer the deceased's body abroad to conduct a post-mortem. They did not specify in which country the postmortem would be carried out.
Mary Grace and her husband lived in Male' City with their four-year-old daughter. The couple worked as nurses at state-run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).
