Maldives reaches one million tourist milestone

The Maldives has welcomed its one millionth tourist for the year.

A special ceremony was held at Maldives' main international airport, Velana International Airport on Friday to welcome the one millionth tourist. Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom and other high-profile figures from the tourism industry attended the ceremony. This is the first time one million tourists visited the Maldives since the Maldives reopened its borders in July 2020.

The one millionth tourist is a French national named Vincent Petau. This is the 42-year-old's 20th visit to the Maldives. He will be spending his holiday at Clubmed Resort with his wife.

While the number of arrivals have crossed one million, the most number of tourists visit the Maldives from India. The secondmost number of tourists visit from Russia while Germany follows close behind.

As per official statistics, the most number of tourists to arrive in the Maldives in one day is 6,000. The average daily arrivals are usually above 3,000. Tourists spend 8.9 days in the Maldives on average.
