Heavy rain causes flooding in three islands.
Heavy rainfall on Wednesday caused flooding in three islands in Meemu atoll of the Maldives.
Flooding was reported from M. Muli, Mulah, and Veyvah. The President of the Meemu Atoll Council, Mohamed Nimal, said the three islands have been experiencing heavy rainfall since Tuesday night. As a result, the roads, as well as homes, were flooded in the islands. Efforts to recede the floodwaters are ongoing, with the assistance of Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) and Road Development Corporation (RDC).
Maldives Meteorological Service has issued Yellow Alerts to atolls between Meemu and Lamu atoll. A White Alert has also been issued to atolls between Haa Alif and Vaavu atoll.
The current weather conditions in the Maldives are due to the influence of a low-pressure area over Sri Lanka. Seafarers are advised to take precautionary measures during this period.
