Four bills to be submitted at the Parliament have been sent to the President's Office by the Attorney General's Office.
The bills sent to the President's Office are:
- Bill on International Trade of Endangered Species
- Bill on Amendments to the Water and Sewerage Act
- Bill on Amendments to the Judges Act
- Bill on Amendments to the Judicature Act
The Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed, had earlier expressed concern regarding the government's delay in sending bills to the Parliament. Nasheed said although the government had said 32 bills would be sent during the third parliament session, only four bills had been received at that time, and there were doubts that the remaining bills would make their way to the Parliament before the end of the session. Nasheed further said over 20 bills are pending at the committee stage.
The bills submitted this term include Civil Procedure Bill, Bill on Electronic Transactions, Evidence Bill, and Bill on Amendments to Sole Proprietorship Act.
The government has submitted 102 bills to the 19th Parliament thus far, out of which 75 have been ratified.
