Whale carcass washes up on Addu beach

A whale carcass washed up on southernmost Addu City's Hithadhoo beach on Saturfay.

Speaking to AVAS, Addu City Council member Mariyam Saeeda said the council received reports of the carcass sighting at 10 am on Saturday. The carcass washed up on the rocky reefs of Hithadhoo, behind the island's school. Saeeda said the whale's flesh had been decomposing for a while, and the smell of the rotting flesh engulfed the area.

'We are in discussion with MNDF on moving the carcass. The Waste Management Corporation has agreed to arrange the burial of the body,' Saeeda said.
