US Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, Donald Lu will be traveling to the Maldives on an official visit.
A statement released by US State Department said Lu will be arriving in the Maldives on Monday. He will be meeting with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Ahmed Khaleel, other senior government officials, and civil society leaders.
Following his visit to the Maldives, Lu will then travel to Kathmandu on November 17 for meetings with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and government leaders.
While a high-ranking US official is visitnig the Maldives, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited the Maldives in October 2020 in an official capacity. Estblishing an US Embassy in the Maldives was discussed during the visit.
