US pledges $8.5 mln to enhance Maldives' public fiscal management

The United States has agreed to provide $8.5 million to the MAldives to strengthen public fiscal management.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sherina Abdul Samad, on behalf of Maldives at a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry today. USAID's Mission Director for Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Gabriel Grau signed on behalf of the United States.

The Foreign Ministry stated that this assistance will further strengthen the management of the state's finances and marks a historic agreement between the two countries.

This year, the United States has provided a total of $45.7 million in aid to the Maldives thus far.
