MNDF officer beaten, abducted in capital city

An officer from Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) officer was abducted and held for money on Wednesday.

According to sources, the 37-year-old Coastguard officer was beaten on the street by a group of seven late Wednesday. He was later held in a locked room until the morning. When the perpetrators could not get any money from him, he was dumped near Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in the morning in his injured state.

Reports say he is currently receiving treatment at the hospital and doing well.
