The Criminal Court on Tuesday issued a travel ban order against former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom at the request of the Maldives Police Service.
Yameen, who was serving a five-year sentence on money laundering conviction, was freed by the Supreme Court earlier on Tuesday. The police said they sought a travel ban order due to other ongoing cases. The travel ban is valid for a period of seven days.
Although the Supreme Court overturned his conviction relating to the sale of Ga. Vodumulaa, the State has raised money laundering charges against Yameen regarding the sale of R. Fuggiri and V. Aarah. The cases are ongoing.
