Former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom will be traveling to the atolls to intensify the 'India Out' campaign.
The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)'s Spokesperson, Heena Waleed, said Yameen's first visit would be to the islands in Male' atoll. He would then travel to other atolls and cities. The date on which the party's delegation would depart from Male' has not been decided thus far. However, she said the trip would likely be scheduled for this weekend or the weekend after.
'President Yameen believes the most important work at this time is working to protect the country's independence. In this regard, he will travel to the islands and gather signatures for the 'India Out' campaign. He also wishes to expand the party's political activities further,' Heena said.
Yameen will be accompanied by members of PPM and the Peoples' National Congress (PNC).
The opposition announced Yameen's plans to travel to the islands after he vowed during a rally held last Friday to intensify the opposition's activities seeking to drive out Indian military personnel stationed in the Maldives.
