The physical work of the water and sanitation system being established in B. Maalhos was officially inaugurated on Friday.
Last year, the Planning Ministry contracted the project to Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) for MVR 60.45 million.
The practical work of the project was inaugurated by the Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah and Chairman of Maldives Ports Limited, Mohamed Abdulla.
The equipment and material needed for the project have already been transported to Maalhos, and the pipe laying process is underway. Over 23 percent of the water plant facility construction has been completed.
The scope of the water project includes a 4.95-kilometer main water pipeline network, construction of RO facility, installation of two RO plants, and three water storage tanks.
The sanitation phase includes a 4.50 kilometer-long main sanitation network, a 250-meter pumping line, two pumping stations, and a sea outflow. Junctions will also be established in households, and sanitation connections will be provided.
