The opposing Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) will be holding a primary to select a candidate to contest for the vacant Komandoo seat.
In an announcement issued on Tuesday, PPM said the primary would take place on December 26. The party said those interested in contesting in the primary must submit their applications before Thursday, December 23.
The Komandoo seat became vacant with the death of MP Hussain Waheed, who succumbed to cancer on December 14. The Elections Commission has said the by-election for the constituency will be held on February 5, 2022. Those contesting in the election must submit their applications before December 30.
