President of the 76th UN General Assembly and the Maldives' Foreign Minister, Abdulla Shahid, has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a tweet posted on Thursday, Shahid, who resides in the United States, said he tested positive for the virus and was isolating at home with mild symptoms. He said he was fully vaccinated, including a booster shot last week.
Since Shahid was elected as the UNGA President, he has been working hard to overcome the global COVID-19 pandemic. In a press conference held in New York to mark the 100th day into his presidency, Shahid said the way to beat the pandemic is by ensuring all are vaccinated against the virus, despite their location.
