Presidential commissions' expenditure over MVR 15 mln

The total expenditure of the two presidential commissions formed by this administration is over MVR 15.4 million.

Under the right to information, an individual named Aiman Latheef sought information on the expenses of the Asset Recovery Commission and the Commission on Death and Disappearances and published the information on Twitter.

According to the information, the highest expenditure was for the salary of commission members. From 2018 until November this year, MVR 9.1 million was spent for the wages of the Asset Recovery Commission members, while MVR 4.8 million was spent to pay the salary of the Deaths and Disappearances Commission members.

Expenditure by the two commissions:

Asset Recovery Commission: MVR 10 million
Commission on Deaths and Disappearances: MVR 5.5 million

While both commissions incurred a high expenditure, neither commission has been very successful in making progress of their respective investigations.
