MTCC contracted to build bridge in Maafushi

The construction of a bridge linking the newly reclaimed area of Maafushi island with the mainland has been contracted to Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).

The New Reclamation Connection Bridge project agreement was signed at a ceremony held Tuesday in the picnic island developed for Maafushi residents. The agreement was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Planning Ministry, Zeeniya Ahmed, and CEO of MTCC, Ali Azim.

A 137-meter long bridge will link the newly reclaimed area and Maafushi. The bridge, 65-feet in width, will have bicycle and pedestrian lanes.

The value of the bridge project is MVR 35 million.

In September, MTCC completed the Maafushi reclamation project, under which 25-hectares of land were reclaimed, and revetment was installed across a 1,100-meter area.
