Chinese Foreign Minister's forthcoming visit will strengthen relations: China

The bilateral relations between China and the Maldives will reach new heights with China's Foreign Minister, Wang Yi's upcoming visit to the Maldives, China has said.

The Chinese Foreign Minister is slated to arrive in the Maldives on Friday on a two-day visit at the invitation of Maldives Foreign Minister and President of the 76th UN General Assembly Abdulla Shahid. The Chinese Embassy in the Maldives said the minister would meet with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during the visit and carry out bilateral discussions with Minister Shahid.

The Embassy said the discussions will be around strengthening relations between both countries and international affairs of common interest. Celebrations events of the 50th anniversary of both countries will also be launched, and several documents of cooperation will be signed, the embassy said.

A Maldives embassy was opened in China in 2007, and the Chinese Embassy in the Maldives was opened four years later in 2011.
