The Maldives can always depend on India: FM Shahid

The Maldives can always count on neighbouring India, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has said. He made the statement during Indian High Commissioner to the Maldives, Munu Mahawar's courtesy call on the Minister.

During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday, Minister Shahid congratulated and welcomed the High Commissioner and exchanged views on further elevating the longstanding relations of both countries. Both Minister Shahid and High Commissioner Mahawar also reviewed the ongoing developmental projects funded by Indian assistance and other cooperation programmes coordinated between Maldives and India.

Minister Shahid and High Commissioner Mahawar expressed satisfaction on the key milestones achieved in India-Maldives relations during the last three years under His Excellency President Solih’s administration. Minister Shahid extended his profound gratitude to the Government of India for the generous assistance provided during the challenging times of Covid-19 and noted that India is a country Maldives can always rely on in any time of need.

High Commissioner Mahawar thanked for the warm welcome, assured his strong commitment to work closely with the government of Maldives in strengthening the close ties between the two countries.
