Madivaru Airport to be managed by Maldivian

The operation of Lh. Madivaru Airport has been handed over to the national airline, Maldivian.

The development of Madivaru Airport was contracted to Kureddhoo Holdings, a subsidiary of Crown and Champa company, in May 2018. Upon completion of the airport, Kuredhdhoo Holdings on Monday signed an agreement with Maldivian to operate the airport.

Maldivian said the final preparations to officially open the airport are underway. Once the airport is opened, Maldivian will begin scheduled flights to the airport in February, the airline said.

Madivaru Airport is approximately the same size as other regional airports in the Maldives. The airport's construction was contracted to China's Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG), a company that has done a lot of development work at the main international airport, Velana International Airport (VIA).

Island Aviation operates three other domestic airports: B. Dharavandhoo Airport, Th. Thimarafushi Airport, and R. Ifuru Airport. Maafaru International Airport is also managed and operated by Maldivian.
