Maldives Correctional Service has said 51 cases of COVID-19 have been identified from Maafushi Prison.
Corrections said the positive cases include 44 inmates and that a total of 210 inmates were in quarantine, including direct contacts. While seven jail officers have also tested positive, one other officer is in quarantine.
On January 14, the prison was put under high alert due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases. Family and lawyer meetings are no longer conducted in person, and all such meetings and court hearings are being conducted online.
