0.02 percent rise in inflation in 2021

The inflation rate in the Maldives rose by 0.02 percent between December 2020 and December 2021, official statistics have shown.

The most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) show the inflation rate increased by 0.02 percent within one year. When the inflation rate is calculated for the period between November 2020 to the end of 2021, the rate was at 0.13 percent.

However, for December 2021 alone, the inflation rate was at - 0.07 percent and +0.12 the month before. When the changes to the price of fish were not considered, the rate was -0.13 in December and +0.16 in November.

The least rise in price was in the price of mobile phones and communication services, with a decline of 2.24 percent. The most significant increase was in the contact lens and contact lens solution price. The prices increased by 6.16 percent in the sector.
