Health Ministry announces recipients of new ambulances

The Health Ministry has announced the islands to which ambulances would be sent.

The Health Ministry brought 15 ambulances to the Maldives on February 8. According to the ministry, one ambulance will be used by the Hulhumale Hospital, while the remaining 14 ambulances to the atolls.

The islands that will receive ambulances are Ha. Thuraakunu, Ha. Vashafaru, Ha. Baarah, HDh. Kulhudhuffushi City, Lh. Kurendhoo, K. Kaashidhoo, Aa. Feridhoo, M. Mulah, Dh. Meedhoo, Dh.Maaenboodhoo, L. Maabaidhoo, L. Gan, Ga. Maamendhoo, and GDh. Vaadhoo.

The Health Ministry said while 96 islands still lack ambulance services, the government is working hard to expand ambulance services to all islands.

Under a deal signed between the Health Ministry and the State Trading Organization (STO) last June, 96 ambulances were to be brought to the Maldives within six months. Out of these, 20 ambulances arrived in the Maldives on October 13, and they were sent to 20 different islands. The second shipment of 20 ambulances arrived on November 19.
