India's NCB raises serious allegations against arrested Maldivian national

India's Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has raised serious allegations against a Maldivian national arrested last week in India on drug charges.

Aminath Rasheeda, 58, from B. Eydhafushi, was arrested on February 15 when she landed at Cochin International Airport.

According to NCB, a package containing drugs addressed to Rasheedha was found in a raid conducted at a courier agency in December last year. Indian media have reported that Rasheed has been involved in the drug trade for several years and that NBC had the evidence to prove it. It was also reported that one of her sons is a peddler who was arrested in the Maldives on drug charges. However, Rasheedha's family denies the claims.

When presented to the court to decide on her remand, the judge initially placed her in judicial custody for three days. However, the remand period has been extended by a further 11 days upon the expiration of the initial remand period.
