Maldives Customs Service has disclosed that the 17 kilograms seized in a drug operation conducted on Monday night were brought from India.
Customs said the drugs were hidden in an air cargo shipment sent to the Maldives from Trivandrum, India. The shipment, which was declared to customs as organic fertilizers, was flagged and searched. The drugs were hidden among fertilizer packets.
Customs said initial testing showed the substance was positive for hashish oil, also known as cannabis oil. The street value of the drugs is around MVR 13.6 million.
The police have arrested four people in an operation conducted following the discovery of the drugs.
