The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has reminded Hiyaa flat tenants that rent would be due on their apartments from this month onwards.
In an announcement issued by HDC on Friday, the corporation said they would be collecting rent for Hiyaa flats from April 1 onwards. Payments can be made via HDC's online 'Payment Portal' or through HDC's Collection Counter.
HDC said tenants may log in to HDC's MyHulhumale' Portal to make their payments. However, only the national bank, Bank of Maldives cards, are accepted for online payments at this time, they said.
A special counter has been established at HDC's main office to collect Hiyaa flat payments. The counter will accept cash, cheque, and card payments.
HDC's reminder regarding rent comes while over 1,500 tenants who reside at the Hiyaa towers have submitted a letter imploring the government to reduce the amount charged as rent. Tenants have to pay a monthly rent of MVR 7,500 and an additional MVR 1,000 as maintenance fee.
Although the social housing flats were handed over to recipients starting August 2021, the government granted a three-month grace period to complete incomplete finishing works of the apartments. Later, the period was extended by a further three months which ended last month.
